What is Holy Week?

Holy Week is the summit of the church year, recalling the final days in the life of Christ. It begins on Palm Sunday and culminates with Triduum, a three-day liturgy that commemorates the events of Jesus’ Passion, Death, and Resurrection. Triduum lasts from the evening of Holy Thursday to the evening of Easter Sunday, marking the end of Lent and ushering in a new season of hope and joy.

Come join us on a sacred journey through Holy Week to the foot of the Cross and the glory of the Resurrection.

2026 Holy Week Schedule

4:30 pm Saturday Vigil Mass
9:30 am Sunday Morning Mass

We begin our Palm Sunday Liturgy by processing into church with palm branches to recall Jesus’ arrival in Jerusalem.

The Passion story is proclaimed to prepare us for the celebration of Triduum.

5:30 pm Potluck (no sign up required)
7:00 pm Mass of the Lord’s Supper
8:00-10:30 pm Adoration
10:30 pm Night Prayer

The Mass of the Lord’s Supper commemorates the establishment of the Eucharist at the Last Supper, the first Mass. It includes the presentation of holy oils blessed by the Bishop and the washing of the feet as a reminder of Christ’s love for us.

Adoration and Night Prayer recall Christ’s prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane, inviting us to “watch and pray” with him.

1:00 pm Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion
8:00 pm Ecumenical Tenebrae Service

During the Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion, the story of Jesus’ arrest, trial, crucifixion, and death is proclaimed, and the holy cross is venerated.

The day ends with an ecumenical Tenebrae Service. Tenebrae – meaning “shadows” or darkness” – is a candlelight service of contemplative prayer, music, and scripture reflecting on the sacrifice of Christ on the Cross; all are welcome.

8:30 am Morning Prayer with Blessing of Easter Food
8:30 pm Easter Vigil Liturgy

The Easter Vigil celebrates the most sacred night of the church year. It begins in darkness with the blessing of the Easter Fire, the lighting of the Paschal Candle, and the singing of the Exultet, the proclamation of the Resurrection.

Old Testament readings and Psalms retrace the story of salvation, the Easter water is blessed, and adults who are entering the church celebrate the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and First Eucharist).

9:30 am Easter Morning Liturgy

The Easter Morning Liturgy celebrates Jesus’ Resurrection with the renewal of our baptismal promises and the sprinkling of the congregation with the newly blessed Easter Water.

Easter Sunday is followed by the Easter Season, 50 days of rejoicing, ending on Pentecost Sunday.
