Children’s Faith Formation
The Faith Formation program at Assumption uses a more encompassing hands-on approach called Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS). CGS is a child-directed program used and loved by families, schools, and parishes all over the world. We work in a purposefully prepared space called the Atrium and seek to ignite or cultivate the child’s love for God and our faith. Rather than give the child information to remember, we instead present selections from Scripture or liturgy and invite the child to choose their work in response as they quietly reflect and grow with the Spirit of God. It is awe-inspiring to see how much the children learn and grow in their relationship with God, even those as young as 3 years old!

- Level I: Age 3–Kindergarten
- Level II: Grades 1–3
- Level III: Grades 4–5*
*Our Level III atrium is still being developed, so in the meantime, we are using the Catholic Children’s Bible program by Saint Mary’s Press. This is an engaging program that helps children grow to a deeper understanding of scripture.
Please reach out if you would like to tour an atrium or sit in on a session!

Sacramental Preparation
Receiving the Sacraments is not something to be taken lightly, especially when it comes to the Eucharist. Because of this, our program is a discernment process, much like OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation for Adults).
Receiving the Eucharist is not a “task to check off” because a child is of a specific age, but a gift to receive when a person is ready in their heart and in their mind. Through discernment and preparation, the child will grow closer to God by understanding him more fully.
Children will also grow closer with their parent(s) as you will work with them and share your faith with them. In addition to their regular weekly classes and Sunday Mass, there will also be special retreats for your child to attend with a parent.
Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW)
Children ages four, five, and six (and seven year olds who have not received their First Eucharist) are invited to attend CLOW during Sunday 9:30 am Mass.
Children are dismissed from Mass after the Introductory Rite to hear and reflect on the Sunday readings at their age level, have a simple interactive Profession of Faith and pray for the needs of the church, the community, and the world. They return to the larger assembly at the Preparation of the Gifts.
