Heritage & Holy Spirit: Celebrating Our Parish Patronal Feast Day

August 18, 2026

On August 15, we were blessed and honored to welcome Bishop Gruss to Assumption for the celebration of our parish patronal feast day, the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. After our historical church bell was rung as a call to prayer, the bishop celebrated Saturday evening Mass together with our own Fr. Rick Filary and special guest, Fr. Adam Maher. Four of our young disciples also received the Sacrament of Confirmation, an inspiring moment during this diocesan Year of the Holy Spirit.

Following Mass, the festivities continued in DuRussel Hall with a brief reflection by the bishop on the Holy Spirit, a potluck dinner, games, and fellowship. Guests enjoyed pulled pork prepared by three different “smoke-masters” of the parish, a medley of homemade side dishes, and a freezer full of ice cream treats.

The evening ended on an exciting note, with the first two Early Bird Drawings of our Big Raffle! Denise Kearl and James (Jim) Bourne were the lucky winners of $50 each, and their tickets went straight back into the tumbler for a chance at our 14 remaining drawings, including our final drawing in November for $10,000!

Thank you to all who contributed to this special evening and all who joined us, especially the families, friends, and sponsors of the newly confirmed and our special guests, Bishop Gruss and Fr. Adam!
